Varifocal and Complex Lens Fitting
This service is for patients with strong prescriptions, astigmatism, or progressive reading requirements. We take monocular height measurements, select high-index materials to keep lens edges thin, and edge the blanks to precise axes. You receive clear vision at distance, intermediate, and near ranges without excess lens weight.
What is included

- ✓Pantoscopic tilt and vertex distance measurement
- ✓High-index 1.60, 1.67, or 1.74 plastic selection

Questions about this service
What is the difference between standard and high-index lenses?
High-index materials bend light more efficiently. This allows the lens to be thinner and lighter for strong prescriptions.
How do you ensure varifocals are easy to get used to?
We measure your visual height based on your natural head tilt, not an arbitrary middle point. Correct height prevents neck strain.
Can varifocal lenses be fitted into my current frame?
Yes, provided the frame has at least twenty-eight millimetres of vertical depth to accommodate distance, intermediate, and reading fields.
How we make your glasses
-
1
Posture analysis
We observe your natural head position while looking into the distance and down at reading material.
-
2
Height and bridge marking
We mark the visual center and pupil height directly on the glazed frame with an optical pen.
-
3
Thickness calculation
We select the lens index and base curve to minimise edge thickness inside your chosen frame.
-
4
Axis-controlled edging
Our digital edger cuts the progressive blanks while holding the cylinder axis to exact single-degree tolerances.
Notes from our counter
I sent my favourite acetate frames to Blythe Optical for new prescription lenses. The focal alignment is exact and the bevel cut sits flush against the frame rim.
David P., Leeds, GBOrdered the titanium frames with distance lenses. The package arrived safely and the frame weighs very little on the bridge of my nose.
Sarah T., Bristol, GBThe glasses feel solid. Screws have stayed tight through daily workshop use and the lenses do not distort at the edges.
